creating a sense of cosy

There’s always a gentle pause in November. The days are shorter but Christmas is still a little way off. It’s a time of nostalgia and reflection; a time to curl up under a blanket with a good book or a favourite movie. Warmth and layered lighting play a big part in creating a sense of cosiness, which helps us embrace the new season.

Table lamps are perfect for creating a snug corner, a reading nook or ambiance as daylight fades.  Designs made from natural materials, like our Terracotta Lamps, add to the cosy-feel.  Coln is one of our favourites, with its soft organic lines and rich earthy texture – in beige, palest blue, white and an earthy mottled rust.

Pendants made of tactile materials soften the look of an overhead light, especially when used with dimmer switches and warm bulbs.  Our Wicker and Rattan designs are examples of two very different styles; the Wicker Pendant has a very rustic homespun-feel, whilst the Rattan Pendant is elegantly slender, with an open weave that creates a beautiful shadow. A small pendant is perfect for shining a narrow beam of light.  This works particularly well over a kitchen island, as a task light in a defined space, or to create a feature.  Our Teak Root Pendants bring a pared-back feel to these areas.  Handmade from salvaged timber, the collection includes two linear designs and bulb-shaped Lyra, each with a distinct braided cable.

Generally, the larger the shade the bigger the statement. This is especially true of our Nagara Metal Pendant.  Made from an original nagara metal drum, this pendant has lots of up-cycled appeal. Worn and studded, the hemisphere shade is scattered with subtle flecks of red and blue/green paint .  When lit, the bulb creates a soft, warm glow inside the drum, perfect for autumn.

New for autumn, our Jute Pendant is hand crafted from natural marine jute fibres woven over a large, lightweight metal frame.   Its wide, open square weave gives a rustic look and diffracts the light beautifully.  The pendant is suspended from three jute threads, which create a floating effect.  Like all of our pendants, it works beautifully hung singularly or in a row, where the rule-of-three works best.
